Overview

This is the story of how two people with a lot of passion and even more expertise built their first chair in a village forge in 1961 and went on to change the world of work. So what is the connection between chairs and blacksmiths? The tradition of blacksmithing in the Link family goes all the way back to 1731. When machines replaced horses during the “Wirtschaftswunder” (“economic miracle”) period in Germany in the 1960s, this father-andson team saw an opportunity in the booming textiles industry, which needed lots of seamstresses and, therefore, lots of chairs. The two men set to work, developing and refining their products. 1961 saw the launch of the bi-regulette –the first high-performance success story, offering relief to users as they work. Waving goodbye to their lucky horseshoes, the Link family were ready to try their luck with seating solutions instead. Interstuhl remains a family company today, although it now has over 650 “family members”. From its headquarters in Tieringen, Interstuhl supplies the whole world with high-performance chairs and seating furniture “Made in Germany”
